Marius Ghinescu is the Vice President of Emerging Technologies and Innovation Platforms (ETIP) at Alberta Innovates – Technology Futures (AITF). In support of Alberta’s innovation targets, he is responsible for strategic development activities including outcome based strategy definition, portfolio management, programs execution and impact assessments. Previous to this role he was the General Manager of Applied Research, responsible for the direction, planning, and day-to- day operation of AITF’s Applied Research organization.

Marius has over twenty-five years of international experience in the defense and commercial industries, occupying leadership roles on complex secret and NATO secret programs in Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, Europe, the Middle East and ASEAN countries.

Marius has a proven track record in the system level development of digital and advanced technologies, and has a deep understanding of Open Innovation, System of Systems (SoS), and business models optimization. His major strengths include strategic planning and leadership, identifying convergent opportunities, connecting various architectural frameworks, products and operations management as well as building high performance teams. Marius is regularly invited to speak and write about creating a culture of innovation and how to leverage emerging technologies to strategically grow businesses.

Marius Ghinescu holds an Engineering Degree from University of Bucharest and a Masters of Business Administration from Queens University in Kingston, Canada. He is also an active member in professional organizations such as APEGA (The Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists, and Geophysicists of Alberta), PMI (Project Management Institute) and INCOSE (International Council on Systems Engineering).

Marius travels frequently to various locations within Alberta and internationally and whenever possible he is pursuing his interests in fly fishing and scuba diving.
